Numbers have dramatically increased at the Twin Pike Family YMCA in Louisiana with the opening of the news aquatics center.
“Some of it’s attributed to the pool but people are seeing the Y’s value too,” said Executive Director Marsha Garrison. “We couldn’t be more pleased.
Ever since the aquatics center opened on Aug. 1, “our usage is up 43 percent,” Garrison said.
The increase is most noticeable at peak usage times, she added.
The facility had 255 more member visits for a 65 percent increase between 5:15 and 6 a.m.
From 11 a.m. to noon, the visits were up 101 percent to 196 users. From 1-2 p.m. usage is up 288 visits, or 111 percent, Garrison said.
The numbers don’t include day passes for non-members, which are also up, Garrison said.
“Because of the usage, we have increased our staff,” Garrison said. The equivalent of nine full-time positions are being filled with part-time employees. That means the YMCA now has 37.7 full-time equivalent employees.
The YMCA has also increased in member units to 843, compared to 699 at this time last year. The current membership unit represents more than 1,300 members.
The YMCA membership has steadily increased with the anticipation of the new aquatics center since 2012, when there were 619 membership units. There was 661 in 2013.
The YMCA will hold the grand opening ceremonies for the new aquatic center at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19. The annual YMCA dinner and auction will immediately follow.
