Summer fun has flown by as students are welcomed back to the 2015-2016 school year at Clopton Elementary by teachers and staff. Also welcoming students back is the staff of the Twin Pike YMCA 21st Century Community Learning Centers before and after school program at Clopton.
The program is offered to students in Kindergarten-Sixth grade. Hours of operation are Monday-Friday with a morning session from 6:15 to 7:30 a.m. and an afternoon session from 3 to 5 p.m.
The afternoon session begins with offering the children a healthy snack. Students are placed into age groups including: kindergarten and first; second and third; and fourth-sixth. Following snack, the afternoon sessions are broken down into daily activities.
Each day, homework assistance is offered. Tuesdays features an arts and craft activity. Wednesdays provides educational enhancement. On Thursdays, students take part in an activity from one of the STEM areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math. Fridays provide the students a choice for their activity. The YMCA before and after school program at Clopton offers fun-filled activities that encourage learning.
Extracurricular activities, holiday parties and more keep the program fun and interesting for the students.
One of the extracurricular activities being offered this year through the program is swimming at the Twin Pike YMCA in Louisiana once a month, excluding December and March. The swimming sessions will begin Oct. 2. Students and staff will leave Clopton by 2:45 p.m. and return by 4:30 p.m.
The Twin Pike YMCA Before and After School Program at Clopton is offered to parents at a reasonable cost. Bus transportation is also provided following the afternoon session.
