Tales of the lengths to which transplanted or vacationing Pike Countians will go to obtain Sun Drop are legend.  A recently posted Facebook request by this reporter netted responses reflecting true foresight, planning, and desperation.
Scott Hunt, sales manager of Pepsi Cola Bottling Company of Bowling Green, said in a phone interview that Sun Drop was “a monster” in terms of sales. “We sell just under a quarter of a million cases of Sun Drop/Diet Sun Drop in our territory.”
Sun Drop was first formulated by Charles Lazier according to beveragesdirect.com. His son, Charles, Jr., soon turned the formula into reality and soon the soda eventually known to the public as Sun Drop was being bottled and distributed. By 1954, according to From Pastries to Pepsi: The Pepsi Generations of New Haven, Missouri, Golden Girl Cola Sun Drop was added to the lineup of carbonated beverages offered for sale by Hebbeler and Son in 1954.
