Powers and Reever receive scholarships

Posted on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at 9:49 am

The Shelter Insurance® Foundation awarded two $2,500 scholarships, one each  to Melissa Cheyenne Powers and Zachary Paige Reever, graduates of Louisiana High School.  Shelter Agent Tim D. Jenkins sponsors and partially funds this scholarship.
Beginning the fall after high school graduation, Powers  and Reever can direct the scholarship funds toward tuition, fees or campus housing for any course of study leading to an academic degree at any accredited college or university.
A committee of local high school officials and community leaders selected the local recipients.  The committee considered each applicant’s scholastic achievements, educational goals, citizenship, moral character, and participation and leadership in school and community activities.  The scholarship is given without regard to race, disability, religion, national origin or gender of applicants.
The $2,500 scholarship is paid directly to the school the recipient selects.  Powers and Reever each received a certificate from  Jenkins on behalf of the Shelter Foundation.
