The Louisiana City Council approved a plan to control flooding on Third Street and some of the other low-lying streets in the southern portion of the city.
City Administrator Bob Jenne said he has been checking into installing a flood gate or valve at the town branch and Noix Creek.
He has contacted KCS Railroad and they are requesting a more detailed plan, but they do not see a problem with it. "We're looking at putting a stop box at the end of the culvert with two gated valves that can be opened and closed. The only thing they are asking for us to do is incorporate their engineering fees in the project," Jenne said.
Jenne will apply for a grant through the State Emergency Management Agency to complete the job.
In other business, the city council reminded citizens who have not paid their delinquent taxes to do so before Friday, May 16. After that, the names of those who owe taxes will be published in the Press-Journal. Approximately 700 letters went out to those who owed taxes. Those who received the letter in error are asked to bring proof of payment to city hall before 5 p.m. Friday.
The council also approved installing and maintaining a crosswalk at the River of Life Christian Academy.
