New health insurance plan will be implemented for City employees

The Louisiana City Council voted 5-1 to purchase a different health insurance plan for full-time city employees on Monday, Nov. 26. Councilwomen Kathy Smith and Nancy Evans were absent. Ward III Councilman Brice Chandler voted against it. City Administrator Kelly Henderson said that the City has had the same health insurance plan for the past three years, but due to the plan increasing each year and the City’s tight budget, the City can no longer afford that plan.

In the new insurance packet, there are a total of four plans. The council voted to purchase the base plan for $13,788 a month, which will be implemented on Jan. 1. Eligible city employees have the option of upgrading to a higher plan in the packet as long as they pay the difference.
