Four turnovers and a 300+ yard running game is all it took for the Duchesne Pioneers to spoil the home opener 27-19 for the Clopton-Elsberry IndianHawks on Friday night.
With any team, mistakes is something that teams can ill-afford, especially when facing a Class 4A team.
“The turnovers hurt us as we had some opportunities to put the ball in the endzone,” said Coach Ben Burnett.
Despite the turnovers and the running by the Pioneers, the IndianHawks held their own and impressed their first year head coach.
“We only allowed 33 passing yards on defense and offensively we moved the ball very well,” said Burnett. “This game is all about making adjustments and we have already started making those at practice today [Monday].”
The IndianHawks were able to move the ball well through the air and on the ground using the arm and feet of their starting quaterback Shawn Yates.
