One senior and three sophomores from the Clopton cross country team competed in the Class 1 State Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Nov. 3.
Senior Donovan Denslow and sophomores Daniel Harvey, Mark Elliott, and Taylor Akers were the Clopton Hawks and Lady Hawks representatives in the race at the Oak Hills Golf Course in Jefferson City. The Press-Journal contacted Clopton Cross Country Coach Colleen O’Brien about the experience and received her reply through an emailed statement.
O’Brien said this was Denslow’s fourth time making it to state, Harvey’s second time, and a first for both Elliott and Akers.
LPJ: As a coach, how did it feel to see those four kids make it to the state cross country race?
O’Brien: “As a coach, it is always a great, surprising and fun experience to have athletes qualify for state. It is also nerve-racking, because by districts there is nothing that I can do to make them more successful. By that time it is all on them.
