Louisiana Mayor Bart Niedner said Wednesday, Aug. 26 that a public meeting and final decision on the proposed deal with BNSF Railways for land and money to develop Riverfront Park “are possibly as much as a year away.”
Niedner said the council voted to continue negotiating with BNSF during a special, closed session. The board also voted to seek design proposals for the riverfront plan.
The city’s Bicentennial Riverfront Commission revealed in a recent meeting that the railroad was willing to donate money and land for the project in exchange for closing BNSF’s South Carolina Street crossing at the riverfront.
