All three counselors for the Louisiana R-II School District presented updates to the Louisiana School Board on Monday, Nov. 26 about the different programs and lessons they are implementing in each building. All three schools in the district are teaching age appropriate lessons against cyber bullying.
Tammy Shireman, elementary school counselor, discussed how LES has been encouraging positive traits in their students through different ways of implementing character education and celebrating good character with the students.
Trisha Brooks, middle school counselor and district test coordinator, talked to the board about different teen health initiatives and presented the District assessment plan. She also said that some guest speakers had come to the middle school and talked to the students as well.
Lisa Leake, high school counselor, has spear-headed a “Journey to College” program that is promoting and supporting students’ higher education once they graduate high school. At the time of the meeting, Leake had personally met with all but two seniors to help them work on their future plans. In addition, Leake has helped seniors and their parents with the post-graduation process by holding financial aid meetings and helping them complete financial aid paperwork.
