The Louisiana City Council decided to table their vote on approving the mid-year city budget adjustments during the City Council meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 18.
Ward III Councilman Brice Chandler, who is head of the Public Safety Committee, plans to look through the adjustments to see if there’s any extra money that can be put towards the police and fire departments. He later the told the Louisiana Press-Journal that he’d also “like to better examine how the budget is being adjusted throughout all the city departments.”
Council members have been discussing different possibilities to keep Louisiana’s public safety departments properly funded, including the possibility of applying for grants and having a public safety tax.
“The outlook for our public safety is bleak,” Ward III Councilman Jeff Salois, member of the Public Safety Committee, stated on his Ward III Facebook page after the Monday, Dec. 10 City Council Committee meeting.
