The Louisiana Quiz Bowl team continued a run of dominance in the CCC with a 510-170 win over Macon on Thursday, March 2.
The team is 31-10 on the year and 7-0 in conference.
During the match against Macon, Louisiana was quicker on the buzzer and answered correctly in long stretches for the win.
The team then journeyed to William Woods University in Fulton on Saturday, March 4, for the NAQT Missouri Qualifier Tournament.
The team placed second in small schools and 11th overall with victories over Fort Osage C, Wellsville-Middletown, Raytown South, Centralia B, Helias A, Savannah and Hickman. The team suffered losses to Rock Bridge B, North Kansas City, Calvary Lutheran and Hallsville for a 7-4 record on the day.
Michael Powers led the team in scoring, averaging 68.64 points per game (71.43 in prelims) to place him seventh overall individually.
“Getting the tougher competition in the bigger tournaments” the team has competed in has helped through tougher questions and stricter guidelines, according to Head Coach Malia Jolly.
With the second place finish, the team qualified for the 2017 Small School National Championship Tournament in Chicago on Friday, April 28 – Sunday, April 30.
The qualifying match was an invitation the team was hoping for all year.
“We were hoping to attend that match,” Jolly said. “It’d be a first for the school. Our goal was to qualify and we did that on Saturday.”
The team’s last regular season conference matchup takes place Thursday, March 9, at Monroe City. On Saturday, March 11, the CCC Tournament begins at Palmyra for a shot at the conference championship.
