Louisiana will raise the pay of its police officers in a bid to stay competitive with nearby towns.
The decision was made at a City Council meeting Monday, Feb. 25.
Louisiana currently has three vacant positions in its seven-person police department.
A memorandum prepared by Mayor Marvin Brown in early February for City Council members and provided to the Louisiana Press-Journal noted that the City had just lost an officer to a city that offered higher salaries.
