A karate dojo officially opened its doors in Louisiana with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Saturday through the Louisiana Chamber of Commerce.

The people behind Impact Martial Arts, place themselves at the end of a lineage of karate instructors who have passed on karate from teacher to student, starting with Joe Bruch, who taught Twila Schuler. John Channell, the owner of Impact Martial Arts, and Brice Chandler, its operating manager, studied with both. Channell took over Schuler’s Rising Son Karate when she moved.

In their new location they hope to extend that tradition to a new generation.

Both men sees the storefront at 3420 Georgia St. as a chance to provide a more solid foundation for karate in and around their hometown.
