Missouri’s Governor Elliot W. Major of Edgewood had several major accomplishments during his years in Jefferson City after being elected to office in November 1912.
The story of another of Pike County’s outstanding citizens will be presented at the July 8 meeting of the Pike County Historical Society at the Saint’s Avenue restaurant in Bowling Green at 6:30 p.m. Marilyn Johnson will tell of Major’s rise from teaching in local rural schools to the governor’s mansion.
Reservations should be made by July 5 with Georgia Gamm in Bowling Green at 324-2753, Mary Littrell at 754-4078 in Louisiana or Linda Harmon, 242-3788, in Clarksville.
Serving as officers of the society are president Paul Lewis, vice-president Eileen Hoffman, secretary Johnson and treasurer Harmon.
PCHS works to share the unique history of Pike County and it’s residents through programs and meetings in different locations in the county.
