A local high school athlete earned a national honor this past week.
Louisiana senior Samantha Henderson was named the MaxPreps Athlete of the Month for January.
Representatives from MaxPreps and the United States Marine Corps presented Henderson with a jacket and trophy for her honor.
“Samantha is driven to succeed both on the field and in the classroom,” Louisiana Head Softball Coach Bill Capps said.
“She has maintained a perfect GPA while playing multiple sports for Louisiana and playing an intense travel softball schedule. One of the things [she] told me when she started playing her freshman year was that she wanted to earn all conference each year she was in high school. Her work ethic throughout her time here helped her achieve that goal.”
Henderson started all four years at Louisiana as catcher of the softball team and was named to the All-Conference and All-District teams each year.
She was also a three time selection for the Missouri Fastpitch Coaches Association All-State Academic Team.
In addition to athletics, she is involved with the rotary club, the American Red Cross, National Honor Society, volunteers for the Special Olympics and holds a handful of offices at Louisiana High School.
She signed with Westminister University to continue her softball career this fall.
