Drivers are being directed around a stretch of Hwy 79 between North Carolina and Delaware Street in Louisiana.
The Mississippi River at Louisiana is experiencing moderate flooding at Louisiana, where it is more than five feet above flood stage, according to measurements provided by the National Weather Service.
Per weather service forecasts, the river will crest under 22 feet early next week.
Downstream at Clarksville, where residents have been bracing for serious flooding, the river is just over thirty feet, a little more than five feet above flood stage. It is expected to crest early next week at more than 32.2 feet.
UPDATE: Some businesses along that stretch of Third Street will remain open. Sylvia Elliott, of Elliott’s Auto Repair at 422 S. Third Street, told the Louisiana Press-Journal her business would remain open and be accessible from Main Street. According to Elliott, Gladney Motors is also still open.
