The Clopton High School Track team opened the season at the Hannibal Pirate Relays on Saturday, March 29 with a strong showing.
For the girls team; sophomore Jaime Denslow medaled third in the 100 meter dash with a time of 14.29 seconds.
The 4×100 relay squad medaled third with a time of 56.48, and the 4×200 team medaled third with a time of 1:58.58. Both relay teams are made up by junior Katie Klopcic, sophomore Jaime Denslow, and seniors Shelby Dunn and Sarah Huckstep.
On the boys side the relays just missed medaling but still turned in good times.
The 4×100 team ran 48.61 and the 4×200 squad ran 1:40.50. Both teams are made up by seniors Devin Linton, Danny Thompson, and Ryan Booher, and junior Daniel Reading.
Senior Danny Somers medaled third in the shot put and senior Ryan Robbins came in fourth in the discus.
“Both boys are looking good for a repeat of their great season last year when they both advanced to state,” said Clopton Track Coach Colleen O’Brien. “This is going to be a very strong year for Clopton track. We have a lot of seniors who all have state experience. I am really looking forward to them finishing strong for their high school careers.”
Other members of this year’s boys squad include: sophomore Matthew Magee, junior Firas Saliba and seniors Travis Kuykendall and Ryan Robbins.
Other members of the girls squad are: freshmen Cassie Brown and Sydney Rothbard, sophomore Jaime Denslow, junior Megan Parrish and senior Sydney Smith.
Clopton was scheduled to run at 4 p.m. at the Bowling Green Mini-Medal Meet on Tuesday, April 1 as the Press-Journal went to press.
