Car show set in Vandalia, Mo.

Posted on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at 10:59 am

Boyd Barrett’s 1970 Chevelle SS will be featured on the dash plaques for this year’s Dam Few Cruisers car show to be held at the Vandalia Fair grounds Saturday, June 21.
The car was built in Arlington, Texas and originally invoiced to L.R. Cooke in Lexington, Ky. Barrett bought it in 2000 from his friend, Bill Harris.  He waited a few years and then started a complete restoration of the car. Barrett did most of the restoration himself including the paint and body work. He received assistance with the upholstery from Linda and Jim White and Mike and Greg Andrews. Barry Sparks built the engine.  Working evenings and weekends, Barrett completed the restoration in approximately 1.5 years.
The Chevelle is powered by a 396 C.I. engine backed by a four-speed transmission. The color is a beautiful black cherry.
This will be the 17th annual car show sponsored by the Dam Few Cruisers Car Club.  The car club is a non profit organization with profits from events donated back to organizations in Vandalia and surrounding communities.
The club also awards an academic scholarship in memory of Ted Seeley to an area high school student who plans to pursue a career in auto body or mechanics.
The car and truck show registration will be from 9 a.m. until noon with an entry fee of $15. There will be drive thru judging with judges provided by the club. Club members display their vehicles but do not compete for the awards.
A burnout contest will be held at approximately 2:30 p.m. The burnout contest may be entered without being a car show participant.  Awards will be presented at approximately 3:30 p.m. Food concessions will be on the grounds featuring choice ribeye and tenderloin sandwiches.
A limited number of T-shirts commemorating the show will also be available for purchase.
