Louisiana students learn on trip to help Haitians

Three Louisiana High School students and several others from the area recently got a life experience in a trip to help Haitians. Bailey Wallace, Chadwick Dowell and Dawson Miller made the trip with Louisiana High Interact Group and instructor Dr. John Piccone.     Missouri Lieutenant Governor Peter Kinder recently presented Veterans Service Awards to 26 Missouri veterans who provide exemplary volunteer service to their communities. Winners were selected from seven regions of the state. The winners in Northeast Missouri were James Boettcher of Palmyra, Roger Kiesey of Troy and Kenneth “Bucky” Ward of Louisiana. Lt. Gov.   • Volunteers sought for Louisiana Chamber of Commerce fundraiser

    The annual street collection fundraiser that raises money for the Fourth of July Fireworks show is just one week away and the Louisiana Chamber of Commerce needs volunteers to “man the cans” on Friday, June 20 and Saturday, June 21.   • DAR members attend state conference

    MSSDAR Honorary State Regent Anne Keller, Chapter Regent Louise Sitton and Secretary Marilyn Johnson attended the annual state conference of the Missouri State Society Daughters of the American Revolution May 1-4. 
   Keller demonstrated basket weaving during the Fiber Arts Workshop and Johnson served as pianist for portions of the business meeting. More than 500 DAR members and guests attended the meeting.

    “Reach for the Stars” was the theme of the 115th State Conference of the Missouri State Society of the National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution. Attending the meeting at the Holiday Inn Executive Center in Columbia May 2-4 were Pike County Chapter officers; Regent Louise Sitton, Recording Secretary Marilyn Johnson and Registrar Anne Keller.   • Students get a dose of reality in Rotary’s annual event

    The Rotary Club of Louisiana met with Louisiana Middle School students on May 22 for the Annual Reality Day. Rotarian Dottie Murray has served as chairman of the event for many years and worked with the new Chairman Amber Schaffer to coordinate efforts with the school staff.
