Quiz Bowl earns win against Troy

By Holly Hill The Louisiana Quiz Bowl team had a practice match against Clopton and Troy. The varsity team defeated Troy in the first round with a score of 230-140. Mason Haddock led the scoring with 100 points, followed by Lloyd Cunningham with 40 points and Jesús Ramos with 30 points. The team worked together to score 60 points in bonus questions.   • This year’s deer harvest ahead of 2013

    Hunters checked 9,107 deer during the antlerless portion of Missouri’s firearms deer season, bringing this year’s tally to 194,997. Top harvest counties for the antlerless portion were Pike with 287 deer checked, Callaway with 283 and Macon with 257. Hunters checked 1,474 fewer deer during the antlerless portion this year than they did in 2013.   • Hoop shoot victors

    Brother and sister Shawn Yates, 12, and Shana Yates, 9, of the Clopton schools, both won the Louisiana Elks Hoop Shoot contest on Nov. 22. The Yates each sank the most free throws out of 25 attempts in their age groups. They will now compete at the district level in O’Fallon in January.

  • Young hunters successful this year

    The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) announced that young hunters ages six through 15 checked 18,091 deer during Missouri’s early youth portion of deer hunting seasons on Nov. 1 and 2. Top counties for the early youth hunt were Osage with 448, Franklin with 393, and Howell with 376 deer checked. Last year’s harvest total for the early youth hunt was 18,676. Antlered bucks accounted for 11,481 of deer harvested,
