Louisiana’s Green named to baseball all-star team

Louisiana High School 2014 graduate Dustin Green has been selected for the second annual Missouri vs. Illinois All-Star Baseball Game. Green was a pitcher and infielder for the Bulldogs and one of the team’s top hitters. The game will be played at 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 12 at Clemens Field in Hannibal.     The Louisiana R-II School District will offer season passes this year in a move to bolster gate counts and increase revenue for its sports programs. The school board approved the passes at the June 16 board meeting. School board members said in May when the plan was announced that the sales of passes could also save families money.   • “Frog days” of summer arrive

    Missouri has two frog species that are legal game — the bullfrog (in photo) and green frog. Frogging can be practiced with either a fishing permit or a hunting permit.

    The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) encourages Missourians to celebrate summer with a favorite outdoor pastime for many — frogging season. It begins at sunset on June 30 and ends Oct. 31. Missouri has two frog species that are legal game – bullfrog and green frog. Bullfrogs are larger and therefore more sought-after.     The Missouri Conservation Department’s Free Fishing Days wil be Saturday, June 7 and Sunday, June 8, when anyone can fish in the Show-Me State without having to buy a fishing permit, trout stamp, or trout park daily tag.   • Louisiana High School gets new coaches

    Two new coaches will take over the Louisiana High School girls basketball program next season. Chris Booth will become the head coach, replacing Craig Pedersen, who recently resigned. Booth was an assistant boys basketball coach for the 2013-2014 season. In addition, Jennifer Gschwender has been named assistant basketball coach. She replaces Tom Wallace, who also recently resigned.

    The LHS boys track team brought home the first place trophy at the district track meet.

  • Clarence Cannon National Wildlife Refuge to host youth fishing day

    The Clarence Cannon National Wildlife Refuge will host its fifth annual Youth Fishing Day on Saturday, May 17, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Youth ages 15 and under, when accompanied by a parent or guardian, will have the opportunity to catch fish in a pond on the refuge.
