More charges filed in theft case

Terri Knapp, 36, of Eolia, has had 45 additional charges of receiving stolen property filed against her in connection with a Bowling Green area burglary last summer. Knapp is scheduled to appear in Pike County Circuit Court on Wednesday, Nov. 12. She remains in custody at the Pike County Jail on a $25,000, cash only bond.     Louisiana Elementary fifth graders are coming together to support one of their own - Anna Elder.

  • YMCA extends mentor program with new grant

    The YMCA’s Reach and Rise Mentoring program has received a grant for $103,000 that will ensure its continuance through Sept. 30, 2017, according to director Lori Helkey. The program just completed its first year with 16 mentors helping 16 area students deal with the difficulties and realities of life. Six more trained mentors await student match ups, Helkey said. The goal is to eventually make 30 mentor-student matches, she added.

  • Relay raises nearly $40k

    Braxton Pitzer and Kaylee Long, with a little help from mom Sheila, cut the ribbon to kick off Saturday’s Relay for Life event.

    Saturday’s Relay for Life event, held at the Pike County fairgrounds, raised a total of $38,868.61, much to the delight of event chairpersons and participants. “It was an awesome night,” said chairman Ethel Drew. The occasion kicked off at 1 p.m. with opening ceremonies and a horseshow. Additional events took place throughout the day and evening.
