The Clopton Lady Hawks softball team got soundly beaten at home and then returned the favor on the road last week.
The EMO Conference Tournament set for Saturday, Oct. 5 was rained out. Clopton is now 8-11 on the season.
The Lady Hawks had an all-around good day in a Thursday, Oct. 3 makeup game on the road against the Lady Tigers.
Freshman pitcher Katie McCrory had one of her best games on the mound this year, giving up only two earned runs on five hits over the seven-inning distance. She struck out 10.
Clopton banged out 14 hits, with sophomore outfielder Megan Parrish slapping three singles in four bats for two RBIs.
Senior third baseman Kristen Tucker also had two RBIs on two hits, including a triple, and scored once.
Sophomore catcher Kaitlyn Reed had an RBI on three hits, including a triple, and scored twice.
McCrory had three hits, including two doubles, an RBI and scored twice.
Senior first baseman Spencer Hicks got a single and a double, had an RBI and scored once.
Sophomore outfielder Sabrina Stewart got two hits and scored.
Junior second baseman Lauren Lagemann got a hit and scored twice. Sophomore outfielder Paige Gronek and junior infielder Shaylen Martin both had singles.
The Lady Hawks were shut out at home by the Lady Thunderbirds on Tuesday, Oct. 1.
Tucker and Reed both got singles for Clopton’s only hits.
Lagemann took the loss, giving up six earned runs over five innings on 11 hits, two walks and one strikeout.
The Lady Hawks are scheduled to play in the Class 1, District 8 Tournament at Silex at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 9 against Paris.
If they win that game, they will play at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 10 against the winner of the Silex-Community game.
The championship game will be played at 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 11.
