The Pike County Soil and Water Conservation District hosted its 19th annual natural resources outdoor classroom recently.
On Tuesday, Sept. 10, 10 stations were set up at the Bowling Green City Park to address the fifth- and sixth- grade curriculum regarding natural resources.
Bowling Green, Frankford, and St. Clement students each rotated to five different stations, each being led by a natural resource professional.
On Wednesday, Sept. 11, stations were set up in the Veteran’s Park in Louisiana. The Louisiana and BONCL fifth-and-sixth grade students attended.
In spite of the record-breaking temperatures on both days, students were very cooperative and engaged in learning more about our valuable resources.
Staff members from MDC, DNR, NRCS, University of Missouri, U.S. Fish and Wildlife, and U.S. Geological Survey joined SWCD staff to share their specific expertise and provide intensive, hands-on instruction on several natural resource topics for the students.
This activity is partially funded by one-tenth of one percent parks and soils tax in the state of Missouri.
