The September meeting of GFWC Chautauqua was held on Monday evening, Sept. 9 at the Christian Church in Louisiana. Holly Mabry served as hostess with help from Julie Stephens.
Julie delivered the program for the meeting. The topic was her 2012 trip to Israel. Several members from the O’Fallon Baptist Church accompanied her on the trip.
The GFWC Chautauqua ladies were in awe of the beautiful scenery and the unique architecture of the country, marred only by security measures that were apparent in the pictures Julie shared.
GFWC members collected school supplies for Girls Town of Missouri and donated them to the girls for the beginning of their school year.
It was announced that the annual open house at Girls Town is scheduled for Oct. 5. Girls Town will be celebrating 60 years of helping girls in Missouri (1953-2013).
A luncheon is scheduled at noon, and will be followed by silent and live auctions and campus tours.
Also announced at the meeting was the awarding of a $200 literacy grant from the national GFWC to GFWC Chautauqua for children’s books for the Louisiana Library.
The books will serve as read alouds and will be highlighted at the Library Story Hours. Pike County youngsters are encouraged to attend.
