Phillips arraigned in court for allegedly killing son
Michael Lee Phillips
Michael Lee Phillips, 45, was arraigned Wednesday, Sept. 4 in Pike County Circuit Court on a charge of second degree murder for allegedly killing his son with a handgun on Saturday, Aug. 31 at a friend’s place near Bowling Green.
A probable cause statement from the sheriff’s office indicates Phillips and son Jeff Chisholm, 22, both of St. John, were struggling with a .40 caliber pistol before the fatal shot was fired. It also said that Chisholm had driven a vehicle toward his father in the original altercation that led to his death.
Chisholm drove off, but returned to the residence on Pike 52 to get his shoes, the statement said. That’s where he and his father had their final confrontation on the front porch.
Phillips is scheduled to appear in court again at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 11 for announcement of his attorney.
Phillips remains in the Pike County jail on a $200,000 cash-only bond.
