YMCA Program updates
The YMCA will be offering youth soccer for kids ages 5-15.
Teams will be grouped by age and communities. Practices will be held in the communities in which teams are formed, but games will be played in multiple locations as this is a traveling league.
Parents are responsible for transportation to all games and practices. Registrations due Sept. 7. Fees: YMCA members $30; non YMCA members $40.
Kicks & Licks Soccer
This program is all about fundamentals of the game. Individuals will be placed on teams by towns.
This program will focus on skill building, and sessions will be held at Wallace memorial Park in Louisiana.
Youth ages pre-k and kindergarten are eligible to participate. Sessions will run four weeks on Saturday mornings beginning in September. Registrations due Sept. 7. Fees: YMCA members $30; non YMCA members $40.
This league is for boys and girls ages 6-14. The program provides players with the opportunity to engage in a fun, exciting, non-contact sport.
Games are played on Saturday mornings. Volunteer parent coaches teach the rules of the game and the fundamentals of various positions along with plays.
This is a four-week program beginning Sept. 8.
If less then 20 participants sign up for the program, a football clinic will be offered in place of team league. Registrations due Sept. 7. Fees: YMCA members $30; non YMCA members $40.
Mighty Stars Flag Football
This program will be held on Saturday mornings for 45 minutes for four weeks. This program focuses on the fundamentals of football.
Kids will learn the basics of each position, how to pass, catch, and play as a team. This is not a contact sport.
All sessions will be held at the Twin Pike Family YMCA Facility. Registrations dueSept. 7. Fees: YMCA members $30; non YMCA members $40.
Hot Shots Basketball
The YMCA will be offering Hot Shots basketball for kids three and four years of age. Sessions will run 45 minutes for four weeks.
The focus of the program is to teach kids the fundamentals of basketball, passing, dribbling, shooting, and playing as a team.
This is a teaching program and parents are encouraged to participate with their child when needed. Registrations due Sept. 30. Fees: YMCA members $30; non YMCA members $40.
Heritage Days 5K Run
This run takes place at the corner of Court and Church streets in Bowling Green on Sept. 14 at 9:15 a.m. Participants should arrive no later than 8:30 a.m.
The race course is a scenic route through Bowling Green that begins at the corner of Court Street on the Town Square and takes runners past Honey Shuck, the home of Champ Clark, along Hwy. Business 61 and finally, back to the town square and finishes at Main Cross and Main Street.
Each runner will receive a free t-shirt, while first- second- and third- place medals for each age category will be presented.
Early bird registrations fee: $30 until Aug. 30; registration fee after Aug. 30 is $40.
YMCA 19th Annual 5K Run/ 1 mile walk across the Mississippi
This event will be held on Oct. 6 at 8:30 a.m. Participants should arrive no later than 8 a.m.
Course includes traveling across the Champ Clark Bridge starting in Pike County, Illinois, to Pike County, Missouri, up Hwy. 54 to the Twin Pike Family YMCA on Kelly Lane. first, second, and third place medals are given in each age category. Each participant will receive a free long sleeve t-shirt.
Early bird registrations fee is $35 until Sept. 10. Registration fee after Sept. 10 is $45.
