Republicans Club annouces gas card winner
Republicans of Pike County are pleased to announce that the winner of the $50 gas card at the Pike County Fair was Savanna McGee.
Savanna also received an American flag that was donated by state Rep. Jim Hansen. McGee is a student at the University of Missouri.
The club’s August meeting was held on Aug. 1 at the Faith Baptist Church in Louisiana. Following the regular carry-in supper, the business meeting was called to order by club President John Baker.
Under old business, John announced that he still needs one volunteer to help maintain the website and Facebook. If interested call or email John Baker.
Under new business, Sept. 5 meeting will be “bring a friend.” Club members are encouraged to invite a guest to come with them to the meeting.
Stephen Korte sent a memo to the group. He announced that after Aug. 28, the sheriffs in Missouri will issue the concealed carry permits. He said that Rep. Jim Hansen and Sen. Brian Munzlinger had both been active in getting this passed.
Rep. Jim Hansen addressed the group. He mentioned some of the challenges he faces as our state representative.
He said that he really enjoys the work that his office requires. He also reported that Governor Jay Nixon had line item vetoed his request for financial assistance for the Pike-Lincoln Tech School. He has not been given a reason for the veto.
He has asked for a $1 million. The state of Missouri took in $700 million more than anticipated the last fiscal year and is in sound financial shape. He said he will continue to seek ways to get assistance for the tech school.
Rep. Hansen will hold a golf tournament fund raiser in Clarksville on Sept. 21.
Next club meeting will be on Sept. 5 at the Faith Baptist Church in Louisiana.
