The Louisiana Area Historical Museum will present the last of its summer programs for “kids of all ages” on Wednesday, Aug. 14.
Charlene McCune, of Bowling Green, will appear in costume in the character of Genevieve Clark, wife of the famous James Beauchamp (Champ) Clark who served in the U.S. House of Representatives for 24 years in the late 1800’s into early 1900’s. Clark served as speaker of the House from 1911 until 1919.
Mrs. McCune currently serves as president of the Champ Clark Honey Shuck Restoration, Inc., a group who strives to preserve the former home of Champ Clark in Bowling Green that is now a national historic landmark.
She will have various items to share, especially the items the Clarks traveled with in their extensive trips made necessary by his position in Washington.
She will explain what their public lives were like during a period of time when life was much different than it is for politicians these days.
The program begins at 1 p.m. at the museum, which is located at 304 Georgia Street in Louisiana. Everyone is welcome to attend this free presentation and to join with others for a lovely complimentary tea of sandwiches and cookies.
The regular museum hours are 9 a.m.– 3p.m. Monday through Friday.
