This past school year, several fifth grade students from Louisiana Elementary School began a conversation about how they were concerned about the residents in nursing homes.
They wondered if the residents had what they needed for everyday life and if there was anything the students could do to help. They worried about those people who may not have families close by and who didn’t have the money to buy certain items.
They wanted to raise money to start a fund to be used by residents when they needed something their families could not afford to provide.
Through a fundraiser called Happy Kids Night, the Maple Grove leadership team was able to collect a small admission amount and also sold popcorn throughout the night. As a result, $173.29 was raised.
The community is being asked to help in this effort by providing room decorations or items that would bring smiles to the faces of the residents.
The leadership team consists of Ke’la Campbell, Olivia Hutt, Deonte Horton, Cameron Henderson, Tyler Pedersen, Abbie Burse, Devin Cropp, Natalie Welch, Mrs. McAfee, Mrs. Kinglsey, and Gwen Reid.
