Blessing, HRH helping to protect young athletes
Blessing Health System and Hannibal Regional Healthcare System are teaming up to provide an educational health series focused on protecting the health of young athletes.
On July 15-16, a panel of health experts will share information for young athletes, parents, and coaches related to bone and joint health. The event will take place on back-to-back evenings in Hannibal at Hannibal-LaGrange University and in Quincy at John Wood Community College.
The aim of the series is to bring parents, coaches, and young athletes together in a comfortable setting to learn preventative tips to protect the future health of young athletes and where to turn when a concern appears.
Attendees can visit educational booths and pick up giveaways and information starting at 6 p.m. The panel discussion will begin at 6:30 p.m., wrapping up by 7:30 p.m. to give the attendees a chance to visit booths and mingle with the speakers before the event ends at 8 p.m.
The panel discussion will feature Caren Kemner, three-time Olympian and director of the Riverfront Athletic Association, and Kathy Turpin, Ph.D., senior director of Sport Drug Free Testing for Drug Free Sport.
As a former Olympian, Caren will discuss the toll that her professional volleyball career took on her body and how you do not have to be an elite athlete to understand that bone and joint health is a critical health issue.
Kathy Turpin will discuss common performance-enhancing and prescription drugs, energy drinks and other dietary supplements athletes consume.
Registration for this event can be completed online at www.blessinghealthsystem.org/healthiertogether or by calling toll free, 877-411-2468. Registration is not required, but is appreciated.
