WIC, PCHD can help moms get a breastpump
There are many breastpump options available to women who are in the market to purchase a pump. Breastpumps range greatly in price, and it can be overwhelming to determine how much of an investment to make.
Women interested in using a breastpump are advised to first contact their local WIC chapter. Most WIC chapters offer breastfeeding resources, including several types of breastpumps available for free or significantly reduced rental fees.
WIC staff are also trained in assessing womens’ situations to determine the best breastpump for their needs. WIC staff at Pike County Health Department can also test your own breastpump’s level of suction free of charge. Many women are surprised to learn that they qualify for WIC.
Pike County moms who don’t qualify may be eligible to rent a breastpump from Pike County Health Department, Home Health and Hospice for a very affordable rental fee.
For questions about the breastpump rental programs, contact PCHD at (573) 324-2111. To read more about breastpumps, check out the breastfeeding newsletter at www.PikeCountyHealth.org
