Rising water close Shanks conservation area
The Ted Shanks Conservation Area north of Louisiana closed to all public use until further notice at 5 p.m. on Friday, June 28, according to the Missouri Department of Conservation. The closure is the result of rising waters on the Mississippi and Salt rivers.
Meanwhile, Louisiana Chamber of Commerce officials are keeping a sharp eye on the river to see if the annual 4th of July fireworks show and festival on the river can be held on Thursday, July 4, or if flooding will cancel it. The Press-Journal will report on the status of the 4th of July activities as soon as the decision is made.
