Local high school juniors to attend Missouri Boys State
Zachary Page Reever and Ethan Garrett Helkey, who both attend Louisiana High School, will be attending the American Legion Boys State program at Central Missouri University in Warrensburg.
Established in 1938, this prestigious statewide leadership and citizenship training program was developed for high school juniors who have distinguished themselves as leaders in their school.
The 74th session will be held June 15-22. During the eight-day program, these highly distinguished juniors will experience government through a “hands on learning” approach, enhance their leadership skills, and develop an understanding of their rights and responsibilities as citizens.
Using our democratic system as a basis, they will be equipped to construct their own state, utilizing the core values that hold true in our everyday lives. They will be taught the need for competition, the value of public office, and the strength of the individual voice and vote.
By reinforcing and learning these basic American ideals, these boys will help shape the future of our society. Each boy who actively participates will receive college credit hours, have access to over two million dollars in scholarships made available only to boys who attend Boys State and will have a very valuable experience to include on college and job applications.
The Louisiana Elks Lodge 791 Trimble Fund will be sponsoring Zachary Reever and The Sons of American Legion Post 370 of Louisiana will be sponsoring Ethan Helkey in the Boys State program for local youth.
