Louisiana Elementary gets new principal
An administrative changing of the guard was begun last week when
was announced as the new Louisiana Elementary School principal.
Hamlett will begin work on Thursday, Aug. 1 and will replace current Principal Erik Melton, who has accepted a principal’s job in the Hazelwood school district in northern St. Louis County.
Hamlett has been the principal at Wellsville-Middletown Elementary School for the past five years. She was a school counselor prior to that.
Hamlett grew up in Bowling Green and then moved to Vandalia, where she graduated from Van-Far High School in 1988. She lives in Vandalia with her husband, daughter and nephew.
Hamlett went to Hannibal-LaGrange University for her bachelor’s degree and then to Lindenwood University for her master’s in school administration. She then got a specialist degree at William Woods University, which is one step under a full doctorate.
Moving to the Louisiana Elementary job “was a good career move for me,” Hamlett said on Thursday, May 16 during an introductory session to the school.
“It’s a larger school and I was ready for a challenge,” Hamlett said.
