Recent school board actions have left Clopton High School without a boys basketball coach.
However, a new football coach has been hired and a returning all-state player will become the assistant girls basketball coach.
In an move unrelated to the school’s sports programs, a separation agreement has been reached with Krista Flowers Luebrecht, the former director of the district’s Pike-Lincoln Technical Center.
The moves occurred at the Tuesday, May 7 Pike County R-III (Clopton) School District board meeting.
After a flurry of different votes, Clopton High School head boys basketball coach Cary Bibb was not retained for the 2013-2014 season. However, he will remain as the school’s athletic director and a physical education teacher.
At the same meeting Michael Scheibel was hired to be the head football coach for the Clopton-Elsberry IndianHawks and as a middle school social studies teacher.
The Highland High graduate played football at Eastern Illinois University, according to Clopton High Principal Larry Lagemann.
Lagemann said he was also pleased the board approved Deaven Omohundru as his assistant basketball coach. The 2009 Clopton graduate was an all-state player for the Lady Hawks and spent the last four years at the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
