The Louisiana Bulldogs golf team came in second in the sectional tournament on Monday, May 6 at Heritage Hills Country Club in Moberly, but qualified for the state tournament.
The Class 1 state tournament will be held at Silo Ridge Golf Club in Bolivar on Monday and Tuesday, May 13-14.
“We put up the worst team score we’ve had over the last two years, but the only thing that matters at sectionals is being in the top two and advancing,” said Bulldogs Head Coach Derrick Branstetter.
“We felt really good going into the state tournament last year, but fell a little short,” coming in fifth place.
“We get another shot this year to bring something home.”
As a team, the Bulldogs actually tied Marceline in the six-team tourney by taking 350 strokes apiece. However, Marceline had five golfers in the top 20 compared to Louisiana’s four.
Senior Greg Pitzer tied for first place with Marceline’s Brett McGlothlin, with both shooting 83 over 18 holes.
Seniors Brendan Ross and Dylan Smith both shot 86. Sophomores Dallas Castagna and Justin Lenz shot a 95 and a 96 respectively.
