Pike County rivers and small streams are rising as the result of the rain that rolled in Thursday, May 2.
The National Weather Service is warning Pike County residents that flash flooding may occur through the weekend. Motorists should not try to drive through flooded areas.
The first storm brought two inches of rain through Friday night, May 3. Showers on Saturday, May 4, the possibility of more rain on Sunday and Monday, May 5-6, plus snow melt from the north are expected to add to the problem.
Mississippi River flood waters dropped significantly to 17.7 feet in Louisiana Thursday but the new storms are expected to bring that back up to a new crest of 18.7 feet by Monday afternoon. In Clarksville, the river went down to 28.2 feet Thursday and is expected to rise back up to 29.3 Monday night.
Partly cloudy and sunny conditions are forecast from Monday through Wednesday night, May 8, but there is a 30 percent chance of rain again on Thursday, May 9.
