Hwy. 79 to Clarksville is open, flood debris cleanup begins in Louisiana
Despite weekend rain, the National Weather Service said Monday, April 29 the flooded Mississippi River should continue to gradually recede through next week.
However, up to four inches of rain is expected to fall in Iowan, Wisconsin and Minnesota this week, which could push flood levels back up and prolong the misery, the weather service said.
Hwy. 79 is open to Clarksville, but still some flooding between Clarksville and Annada according to MoDOT. Hwy. D is open to Eolia.
The water receded on Hwy. 79 (Third Street) in south Louisiana over the weekend, but a detour exists on Main Street around the still-flooded area.
Debris cleanup began over the weekend, and BNSF Railway workers were fixing a broken rail on the Louisiana riverfront early Monday morning.
