River cresting at Louisiana and Clarksville, slow receding expected
The Mississippi River appears to be cresting at Louisiana and Clarksville but rain forecast for today, Tuesday, April 23, will probably keep the river from receding quickly, according to the National Weather Service.
The river was at 24.8 feet in Louisiana on Monday night, April 22, just a bit less than 10 feet above flood stage. It is expected to go down to 24.4 feet by Wednesday morning, April 24.
At Clarksville, the river was at 35.3 feet Monday night, more than 10 feet over flood stage. It is expected to drop to 34.8 feet there by Wednesday morning.
