Budget uncertainties for new Louisiana school board
Louisiana R-II School District officials are trying to come up with a budget for the 2013-2014 school year, but uncertainty is currently in the way.
“We don’t know what the general assembly is going to do,” Superintendent Dr. Richard Basden told the board at the Monday, April 15 meeting.
The state legislature is currently dealing with state school funding, but won’t have a solution until late spring or early summer, Basden said.
The school board will have to come up with a final budget by the end of June.
The draft budget includes about $7 million for operations and $3 million in reserves.
The meeting also allowed a changing of the guard on the district board.
Outgoing members Lisa Pitzer, who served six years, and Allen Telle, who served nine, were given gifts and a round of hugs for their service.
Newly elected board members Lori Helkey and Rob Lumley were then sworn in for three-year terms earned in the April 2 election.
