Drive-in movies were once a staple of American life, but most of them have closed or been sold for development over the past 40 years.
But in the Twin Pike counties area, the Clark 54 Drive-In between Louisiana and Pittsfield has stayed alive for decades, providing inexpensive movie entertainment for families under the stars.
Now the familiar landmark just outside of Summer Hill is up for sale and the current owner is unsure if he will open this spring or not.
“I might open, I might not. It’s really up in the air right now,” said owner Mike Glass of Fieldon, Ill. “If I do, it will probably open in late May,” Friday through Sunday nights.
“It’s not easy for me to sell but I want my summer weekends back,” Glass said. “I just want to do something else.
