The Clopton YMCA after-school program is looking forward to the spring season after a harsh winter of being inside!
Staff and students alike are prepared to be refreshed after our week long spring break. Returning to school will bring much preparation for the upcoming MAP test taken by our third- through sixth-grade students.
Lately our Y program has taken time to emphasize teaching healthy food choices by our students with enrichments being done by Stephanie Cannon monthly and a program presented by Vanessa Thomas.
In these programs students are examining food labels, rethinking their after-school snack choices, playing games to reinforce healthy and unhealthy fats, and having a great time while learning.
The students really have enjoyed the opportunity to create 3-D accordions to hold photos. This form of Origami forced the students to follow directions, use their hands, and think outside the box.
The finished projects were great and the students were very proud of their work. Sheri Grote was able to guide the students throughout the art work and helped them in creating these masterpieces!
The countdown to summer has begun in many elementary classrooms. With this brings the excitement of the Clopton Y 21st CCLC summer session.
During summer session our kids enjoy many outdoor games, water games; including the water slide. A favorite to all is the “Creek Day” where students hit the outdoors with the adventure of finding critters in the creek!
We visit the Louisiana pool two times a week which is always filled with tons of excitement. Science projects will be included taking a closer look at the solar system and physics.
More information will be made available to all Clopton K-6 students and will be sent home with your child in the next month.
As always the Clopton Y’s door is open to all students wanting to join our program. Staff and students spend each day after school enjoying their time while learning and growing together.
