Officials from Louisiana and the R-II School District are hoping to improve the city’s baseball and softball fields at Wallace Park, but funding uncertainties make the dream preliminary.
Louisiana City Administrator Bob Jenne said Monday, March 25 that he had sent a letter of intent to Major League Baseball to see if they would consider a grant request for the ballfields.
Jenne said he has not heard back yet from Major League Baseball on the proposal to improve Lions Field, Firemen’s Field and Dewey Field.
At the Feb. 4 Louisiana City Council meeting, R-II Athletic Director Curtis Hendrickson also made a proposal for the city to split a $34,000 estimated cost to improve a softball field at Wallace Park with the district.
Howerver, the federal sequester that is expected to cut money from the district’s annual budget must be dealt with before any improvements are considered, district Superintendent Dr. Richard Basden said.
