Community Betterment meeting to be held

A regional meeting from Community Betterment is being held Tuesday, April 16 from 1:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Pike County Memorial Hospital.
Louisiana Community Betterment, a committee of the Louisiana Chamber of Commerce, is sponsoring this meeting.
Two speakers, Gordon Ipson and Dr. Johanna Reed Adams are invited guests and leaders for this event. Also appearing will be Jan Simon, executive director of Missouri Community Betterment.
Dr. Adams is a state community leadership development extension specialist, extension assistant professor in the department of rural sociology and faculty member of the Community Development Academy and is based in Columbia.
She is responsible for the development and implementation of community-based leadership programming. Since 1998, she has been working with colleagues and collaborating partners to create education programs requested by community and organizational leaders throughout Missouri.
Her main focus has been the excel program held throughout Missouri. She also has experience writing and piloting leadership development curriculum. She has an Bachelors degree in Political Science, Master’s in Public Administration and a Ph. D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
Her primary research is in the field of leadership development.
Mr. Ipson is the first-ever Manager of economic development for the Northeast Missouri Electric Power Cooperative based in Palmyra. He develops and administers programs and services for the cooperative and the eight distribution cooperatives it supplies. They include business retention and expansion, new enterprise development, community leadership development and education and business recruitment.
His service area includes parts of 18 counties in Missouri and 15 counties in Iowa, an area of 10,000 square miles.
He is a certified economic developer with more than 36 years experience working in seven states. He has a Master of Business Administration in Management, a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences and has done post-graduate work in Adult and Community Education.
He has served as a consultant on rural economic development to universities, state and local governments in the United States and Australia. In May 2008 he helped start the Northeast Missouri Development Partnership. A 15 county regional development organization.
Louisiana Community Betterment is offering this opportunity to our region in the hope that we can be better prepared for the future in terms of leadership and business. Paulette Powelson and the Rev. D. Randall Cone are co-chairpersons.
