Louisiana Alumni and Friends Association to hold meeting for master roster input

Over 5,580 students have graduated from Louisiana High School since 1875.
Of those, 4,388 graduated since 1940. Currently, the Louisiana Alumni and Friends Association has 2,808 graduates’ names and contact information on its master roster.
These were some of the facts that Mike Pratt, LHS ’70, provided those at their Feb. 16 meeting.  He has volunteered to take over maintaining the master roster.
In addition, he will be working to locate contact information for as many persons as possible who attended Louisiana schools in grades seventh through 12th.
President Cindy Blaylock welcomed new board members Danette Robinson DeBourge, ’72, and Linda Robinson Shade, ‘78, to their first meeting.  Danette, who is serving as treasurer of the association, presented a financial report.
Vice President Walter Logan reported on his efforts to contact representatives of this year’s special reunion classes, those whose graduation year end in 3 or 8.  He has identified the person(s) of many of these classes who will coordinate planning their class reunion.
Input is being sought from these classes to determine what type association-sponsored activities they believe their classmates would be most likely to attend during the all-school reunion in October.
A detailed report was presented by Sandy Niemeyer on the successful results of the cookbook fundraiser project which she chaired.  All books received in October have been sold!
The association wishes to thank KJFM, the Mercantile Bank, Louisiana R-II School District, Louisiana Press-Journal and the People’s Tribune for helping get the word out.
Also thanks to the staff of the Louisiana Public Library, Pike County Memorial Hospital gift shop, Blaylock’s State Farm Insurance office and Patty Crane at the Pike County treasurer’s office for making them available for purchase at their locations. A special thank-you goes out to all who purchased the cookbooks.
A report of the audit committee was given.  They audited the financial records of the association through the end of 2012 and found them to be in complete order.  Thanks to Anne Keller for her superb handling of the treasurer’s duties.
The decision was made to present four scholarships to graduating seniors this May.  Each scholarship will be in the amount of $750. Interested seniors should contact the school counselor for an application form.
The group voted to make a donation to the after-prom party committee and to place an ad in the Alamo yearbook.
A special meeting to focus only on providing input for the association’s master roster was scheduled for Saturday, March 23rd at 9:30 a.m. in the First Christian Church fellowship hall at 517 South Carolina St.
Anyone is welcome to attend the next scheduled meeting set for Saturday, April 6, also at 9:30 a.m. at the Christian Church.
