Funeral services for Mr. Gene Ray Geeson, 87, of Louisiana, were held on Sunday, March 3 at the Collier Funeral Home in Louisiana. Mr. Steven Ince officiated.
Burial was in the Riverview Cemetery in Louisiana. Mr. Geeson passed away on Feb. 26, 2013 at the Moore-Pike Nursing Home in Bowling Green.
He was born on Sept. 3, 1925 in St. Louis to Arthur and Esther Lane Geeson. He was married to Doris Young on April 19, 1948 in Columbia. He later was married to Nancy Cadwallader on July 18, 1987 in Louisiana.
He is survived by one son, Todd Geeson (Jennifer) of Mexico, two daughters, Lynn Geeson (Tony Menditto) of Columbia and Marla Gesson (Curt Ries) of Louisiana, one step-son, Steven Ince (Bryca) of Louisiana, six grandchildren, Jordan Geeson of Mexico, Maggie Geeson of Mexico, Theresa Menditto of Columbia, Lauren Ince, Lanee Ince, and Dallas Ries all of Louisiana, and a brother, Don Geeson (Sara) of Deltaville, Va.
He was preceded in death by a son, Mark Geeson, on July 17, 1977.
Mr. Geeson was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during WWII serving in Okinawa and Iwo Jima. He owned and operated the Young’s Variety Store in Louisiana for over 25 years.
He also worked as superintendent for the City of Louisiana Water Department for 10 years and did maintenance for Jay Thomas Properties until retiring. Ray loved golf and playing with the children in his life.
His ultimate enjoyment was golfing with his children. He had many friends at Pike County Country Club and he especially enjoyed the annual golf trip each spring to the Gulf.
He also enjoyed boating and fishing. He had been a member of the Calvary Episcopal Church and had also attended the First Baptist Church in Louisiana for over 20 years.
Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Joe Martin, Tony Menditto, Emmitt Niffen, David Cadwallader, Rule Campbell, Carter Vieira, Emily Calvin, and Sara Estes. Active pallbearers were Jerry Smith, Brandy Branstetter, Robert Turpin, Jordan Geeson, Bobby Thompson, and John Sitton.

Funeral Mass for Mr. Richard A. Grimm, 88, of Louisiana, were held on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Louisiana. Father Lou Dorn officiated.
Burial was in the Holy Rosary Cemetery in Monroe City. Mr. Grimm passed away on Feb. 26, 2013 at the Barry Community Care Center in Barry, Ill.
He was born on September 15, 1924 in Louisiana to Andrew and Lora Christian Grimm.
He is survived by a niece, Florence Williams of St. Charles; a good friend, Walter Cropp of Louisiana; great-nieces, Christine McGowan of Pearland, Texas and Janet Sprain of Simonton, Texas; and a great-nephew, Mark Williams of St. Charles.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Frances Grimm, Beulah Greenburg, Dorothy Williams, and Mary Christine Grimm.
Mr. Grimm was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Louisiana. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He enjoyed to travel visiting places all over the world, and he enjoyed collecting license plates.

Cheryl Lou Clark, 67, of Wellsville, passed away at 2:15 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013 at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, Missouri.
Memorial services were at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 2, at Grace Lutheran Church in Wellsville. Rev. Luke Wolters and Rev. Jerry Gamm will officiate. Serving as organist will be Eldora Lowry.
Visitation was held from 11 a.m., until the time of service, Saturday, at the church.
Services are under the direction of the Myers Funeral Home in Wellsville.
Cheryl was born March 20, 1945, in Mexico, a daughter of Herbert Alvin and Erma Elizabeth Alderson Blaue.
She was a 1963 graduate of Community R-6 High School in Laddonia. Cheryl went on to LPN School in Mexico, graduating in August of 1964.
Cheryl had married Terry Gibson; they were the parents of three children: Michael, Marc and Kimberly.
On May 18, 2002, at the Grace Lutheran Church in Wellsville, she married Richard Eugene Clark. Cheryl and Rich have lived at their home in Wellsville since that time.
She was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Wellsville. Cheryl felt it was very important for children to get inspired to go to church, which is why she chose her own memorial contributions. Each memorial is significant to her grandchildren’s life and their church.
Cheryl had lived in Vandalia from 1975 until moving to Wellsville in 2002. She was the owner and operator of the Vandalia Bowl from 1975 to 2002. Cheryl had also worked as an LPN for Pin Oaks Nursing Home and Audrain Medical Center. For over 18 years, she was employed at the Missouri Veterans Home in Mexico, working as an LPN and also as an Activities Director, retiring at the age of 62. Through her years, she received several awards which include, Activity Director of the Year for 2003, Mexico Veterans Home Employee of the Month for November 2004, Missouri Veterans Commission Employee of the Month in January 2005, Department of Public Safety Employee of the Month for March 2005 and State of Missouri Employee of the Month for April 2005. Cheryl loved her job and enjoyed taking care of the Veterans.
She enjoyed fishing, mowing, gardening and taking care of her blackberry bushes. Cheryl was a kind and thoughtful friend and neighbor, always willing to help out when someone needed anything. She was a great cook and would always have something prepared if there was a chance she would have company. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, telling them scary stories, taking them fishing and also watching them play sports.
Cheryl is survived by her husband, Richard Eugene Clark, of the home in Wellsville; sons, Michael Wright Gibson, of Martinsburg and Marc Alvin Gibson and wife, Beth, of Bowling Green; daughter, Kimberly Christine Shaw and husband, Michael, of Curryville; step-daughter, Angela Weber and husband, David, of St. Peters; eight grandchildren, Lance Michael Gibson and Natalie Marie Gibson, both of Martinsburg; Kayla Nicole Koester and fiancé, Chris Berry, of Hannibal, Marc Anthony Gibson and girlfriend, Kelsey Meyer, of Bowling Green, Joshua Levi Gibson and Zachary Drake Gibson, both of Bowling Green and Lauren Christine Shaw and Kristen Elizabeth Shaw, both of Curryville; three great-grandchildren, Christian James Berry and Carson David Berry, both of Hanniba,l and Lydia Alana Gibson, of Bowling Green; sister, Myrna Sue Rodgers, of Bellflower, brothers and sisters-in-law, William James “Bill” and Sandy Blaue, of Laddonia and Harold Dale and Judy Blaue, of Wellsville; sister-in-law, Carol Clark, of Montgomery City; special friend, Kathy Winkleman, of Martinsburg; in addition to several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

Annabelle Garrison, 62, of Bowling Green, passed away Saturday March 2, 2013 at the Pike County Memorial Hospital in Louisiana. Funeral services will be Wednesday March 6, 2013 at 10 a.m. at the Morning Star Fellowship Church in Bowling Green with Rev. Skip Merkel officiating. Burial will be in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Bowling Green. Visitation was held on Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Morning Star Fellowship Church.
Annabelle was born on April 28, 1950 in Alton, Ill., the daughter of John and Sinah Rosetta Worthy Pruitt. She was raised in Alton and married Bobby Garrison on Oct. 6, 1967 in Alton and he survives. Annabelle was a member of the Morning Star Fellowship Church, loved playing computer games, going to yard sales, shopping, gardening and most of all spending time with her grandchildren.
Other surviving relatives include her son Jason Garrison and wife Kris of Bowling Green; 10 grandchildren and four great grandchildren; two brothers Jerry Pruitt of Gillespie, Ill., and Walter Pruitt and wife Dixie of Alton, Ill.; sister Dorothy Langley and husband Virgil of Bowling Green. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sons Bobby, Phillip and Kevin; brother John H. Pruitt and sister Sinah Ellen Pruitt.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Garrison, Jarod Peak, Josh Langley, Saxton Cole, Ivan Johnson and Dave Murry. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeremy Garrison and Joe Langley.

Funeral Services for Jane Willis Hunter Howard of Elsberry, were held on Monday, Feb. 25, 2013 at Elsberry First Baptist Church in Elsberry.
The Rev. John Bateman, pastor of Ramsey Creek Baptist Church, officiated with burial in Elsberry City Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers were Matt Jones, Johnny Howard, Andrew Howard, Paul Keeven, Jason Snyder and Ryan Zupon. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Harry Jones and Allen Siders.
Mrs. Howard, 87, passed away Feb. 21, 2013 at the Elsberry Health Care Center near Elsberry. Born June 24, 1925 on the family farm in Clarksville, she was the daughter of Howard Carrol and Frances “Fannie” McDannold Hunter.
Jane graduated from Clarksville High School and attended William Jewell College before returning home to teach at the Calumet School.
She was united in marriage on June 5, 1948 in Clarksville to William Otto “W.O. Bob” Howard. This union was blessed with two sons, Robert Thomas and William Kevin.
Jane began teaching school in Elsberry part time in the late 1950’s. She graduated from Lindenwood University with a B.S. in Education in 1972.
She worked as an elementary school teacher at Clarence Cannon Elementary School in Elsberry, retiring in 1985. She was a 50-year member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Chapter AI in Elsberry, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Lincoln County Women’s Democratic Club.
She was especially fond of the women of her Bridge Club to which she belonged for over 50 years. Mrs. Howard was also a member of the Elsberry First Baptist Church for nearly 65 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Frances Hunter; three sisters, Helen Frisch and two as infants; and her beloved husband of 58 years, W.O. Bob Howard who died Nov. 13, 2006.
Survivors include two sons, Tom Howard and his wife, Jean, of Auxvasse, and Kevin Howard and his wife, Elaine, of Elsberry; five grandchildren, Elizabeth Adrian “Beth” Howard-Snyder and her husband, Jason, Allison Marie Howard-Zupon and her, husband Ryan, Lauren Anna Howard, Erin Jane Howard-Keeven and her husband, Paul, and Andrew Clark Howard and his wife, Katie; and three great-grandchildren, Amelia Jane Snyder, Sydney Grace Zupon and Lucy Eileen Keeven. She also leaves several in-laws, nieces, nephews, many other relatives and a host of friends.

Galen E. Lankford, a former educator and school administrator, died March 2, 2013 at the Monroe City Manor Care Center in Monroe City.
He was 100 years old, and known extensively throughout the Monroe City area as “Mr. Lankford.”
Mr. Lankford was born Oct. 23, 1912, the second son of David Lyons and Emma Leah Hudelson Lankford, in Adrian. He was married to Thelma Berniece Boyd in the First Baptist Church of Butler on Aug. 23, 1940.
Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Ann Redman of Beavercreek, Ohio and Trudy Jean Rogelstad of Springfield; four grandchildren, Heather Ann Felton (Tom) of Springboro, Ohio, Charles Richard Redman II (Raquel) of Columbus, Ohio, Tricia Montoya (Tom) of Denver, Colo., and Trent Rogelstad (Christine) of Denver, Colo.; plus eight great-grandchildren.
Also surviving is a brother, June C. Lankford (Leeta Fern) of Normon, Okla.; and a sister, Vonda Leah Gourley (Darrel) of Liberty; and many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to include as survivors, two son-in-laws, Charles (Dick) Redman and Jerry Rogelstad.
Mr. Lankford was preceded in death by his wife, both parents, and three brothers, Donald Lankford, Wayne L. Lankford, and Gordon K. Lankford.
Mr. Lankford graduated from the Adrian Mo. High School in 1929, at the age of 16. In 1931 he was employed to teach elementary school at a small one-room schoolhouse in Bates County. He continued the first teaching position until the end of the 1939 school year.
Mr. Lankford received his Bachelor’s Degree from Central Missouri State Teachers College in Warrensburg in 1940, and his Master’s in Education from the University of Missouri in 1949.
He was employed as principal of the Brunswick Mo. Elementary School from 1940-1943. In July of 1943 he became high school principal at Louisiana, and remained in that position until 1952.
In 1952 Mr. Lankford accepted the position of superintendent of Schools in Monroe City. He remained superintendent in Monroe City until his retirement in 1976.
As superintendent of Monroe City Schools, Mr. Lankford successfully conducted the campaign for “Reorganization” of 31 rural schools and three small high schools into the new Monroe City R-1 School District in 1959.
With this accomplishment, he subsequently spearheaded efforts to get voter approval for two elementary school additions, a new school cafeteria, and ultimately a new high school building for the R-1 School District.
Mr. Lankford was one of the primary driving forces on the board of education for reinstituting high school football in Monroe City in 1959. Following the decision to bring football back to Monroe City, he led another effort to build a new track and football field.
Because of his hard work and leadership in restoring football to Monroe City, at the time of his retirement, the board of education named the football field “Lankford Field.”
During his many years as an educator Mr. Lankford held positions as: Executive Committee of Northeast Missouri Teachers Association, 1958-1962; member of the National Study Committee of the North Central Association of College and Secondary Schools, 1961-1962; chairman of the State Committee on Teachers Salaries and Tenure, 1964-1968.
Mr. Lankford was honored by being selected for “Who’s Who in American Education” in 1962. He was a life-long member of the Missouri State Teachers Association and the National Education Association, and in retirement served as president of the Northeast Retired Teachers Association.
In his community, Mr. Lankford was past president of the Monroe City Lions Club, chairman of the building committee of the First Baptist Church, member and president of the Monroe City Library Board, and member of the Monroe City Zoning and Planning Commission.
On the occasion of his 100th birthday, Mr. Lankford was recognized for his many contributions to the school and community during a presentation on “Lankford Field,” where he received a student presentation of appreciation and the mayor of Monroe City presented him a “Key to the City.”
Most recently, the Missouri Retired Teachers Association presented Mr. Lankford with a “Lifetime Achievement Award” in recognition of years of distinguished service to the children of Missouri.
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 6 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Monroe City Junior High School Auditorium, with funeral services to follow at 7 p.m. Burial services will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Butler on Thursday, March 7 at 3 p.m.
August (Gus) Owens, 75, of Bowling Green, passed away Tuesday Feb. 26, 2013. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013 at the St. Clement Catholic Church with Fr. Bill Peckman officiating. Burial was at the St. Clement Cemetery. Visitation was held Friday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Mudd-Veach Funeral Home.
Mr. Owens was born the son of Roy Martin and Leona Elizabeth Winkler Owens. On Sept. 3, 1960 he married Nelva Neal in Frankford, she survives. Other survivors include two sons Tony Owens and wife Brenda of Vandalia, Brad Owens and wife Anne of O’Fallon; three grandchildren Caleb Owens of Nashville, Tenn., Beth Owens of Moberly, and Lucas Owens of O’Fallon; three brothers Roy Owens of Palmyra, Don and Tom Owens of Bowling Green; two sisters Mary Lee Owens and Shirley Owens of St. Peters; numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Richard Owens.
Mr. Owens was born in St. Louis and moved to rural Pike County at seven years of age where he remained except for military service with the United States Air Force. He was a member of the St. Clement Catholic Church. Gus graduated from Hannibal LaGrange College at age 52. He later retired from Stark Brothers Nursery after 50 years of service. He loved his work and was highly respected by employees. He enjoyed weekly visits to St. Clement Chapel. Mr. Owens enjoyed spending time with family, gardening, doing outside work, and working on his home orchard.
Serving as pallbearers were Brian Snodgrass, Bill Green, Kenny Owens, Jonathen Lucas, Joe Owens, and Elijah Owens.

George W Ploesser, age 60 of Bowling Green, passed away Monday, February 25, 2013 at the Moore-Pike Nursing Home in Bowling Green. Funeral services were held at 12 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013 at the Mudd-Veach Funeral Home in Bowling Green with Pastor Skip Merkel officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. Visitation was held from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. on Thursday, at the funeral home.
He was born Aug. 15, 1952 in Louisiana, the son of George A and Evelyn C. Woodson Ploesser. He married Juanita Carroll in July of 1985. Survivors include his parents, George and Evelyn Ploesser of Bowling Green; son Ivan Johnson of Marshall; sisters Brenda Clayton and husband John of Frankford, Suzanna Green of Bowling Green; grandchildren Colten and Lance Johnson; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Kathy Royer and Diane Ploesser.
Mr. Ploesser grew up in Frankford, attending school at Frankford school and later Bowling Green school. He lived in Bowling Green most of his life. He worked for Knight Equipment and All-Way Wire and Rope until he retired in 2012. He enjoyed lots of fishing and hunting. He was a hard worker and a friend to about everyone he met. He was Pentecostal by faith.
Serving as pallbearers were Kevin Garrison, Jeff Roland, Colten Johnson, Jason Garrison, David McCurdy and Ivan Johnson. Serving as honorary pallbearer were Lance Johnson.

Gary Rose, 55, of Vandalia formerly of Bowling Green, passed away Feb. 26, 2013 at the Pike County Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Friday, March 1 at the Mudd-Veach Funeral Home in Bowling Green with Rev. John Birkhead officiating. Burial will be in the Green Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday Feb. 28 at the funeral home.
Gary was born Nov. 2, 1957 in Louisiana, the son of Charles Elmer and Dema Ruth Kuntz Rose.
He is survived by three brothers Gene Rose of Elsberry, Ronnie Rose and wife Trish of Fredricktown, Earl Rose and wife Robin of Bowling Green; two sisters Beatrice Cole of Jefferson City, Ruth Ann Reid and husband Everett of Bowling Green; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Mary Jo Hays and a nephew Shawn Ebers.
Gary grew up in Whiteside and attended school in Clopton. He later moved to Bowling Green, where he lived until he recently moved to Vandalia. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church where he was a deacon and sang in the choir. Gary worked for Abels Oil Company where he worked as a maintenance man and cashier, serving the two Bowling Green locations.
Serving as pallbearers were Chuck Rose, Joey Hamlett, Travis Hays, Justin Rose, Dean Reed, J.B. Kuntz. Serving as honorary pallbearer was Eddie Kuntz.

Funeral services for Mrs. Lois Jean “Jeannie” Serandos, 78, of Brentwood, formerly of Louisiana, were held on Friday, March 1, at the First Christian Church in Louisiana. The Rev. David Machon officiated, assisted by Rev. Gail Aurand.
Burial was in the Riverview Cemetery in Louisiana. Mrs. Serandos passed away on Feb. 25, 2013 at the Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis.
She was born on May 30, 1934 in Louisiana to Henry Suddarth and Mary Margaret Grimsley. She married Merrill David Henderson on Feb. 13, 1954 in Louisiana and to this union had a son, Joe Henry who died at birth, and a daughter, Sandra Gail. She was later married to Tom Serandos in July 20, 1968 in Louisiana and he preceded her in death on Feb. 13, 1999.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Gail Henderson of Brentwood, six step-children, Thomas Robert Serandos of Colorado, Deena Ann Maiden of Vandalia, Andrew Edward Serandos of Cape Girardeau, Raymond Anthony Serandos of Wright City, Charles Bruce Serandos of South Carolina, and Eva Marie Hunter of St. Louis; 10 step-grandchildren; two beloved nieces, Francey Henderson Aubuchon of Ft. Collins, Colo., and Babs Henderson Haney and one nephew, Stephen Michael Henderson of Houston, Texas.
Jeannie graduated from Louisiana High School in 1952. She attended Brown Business School in St. Louis. After her first marriage in 1954, she moved with her husband and lived in Belleville, Ill., St. Louis, and Hot Springs, Ark., and returned to Louisiana in 1966. In 2010 she moved to Brentwood near her daughter.
She was a member of the First Christian Church and Christian Women’s Fellowship, the Order of the Eastern Star, Louisiana Colorfest Committee and grand marshal of Colorfest Parade 1998.
She also was a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club serving as president in 1996, and had been a Girl Scout Leader.
Honorary pallbearers were Nick Quattrocchi, John Sitton and John Dillender. Active Pallbearers were Tom Fowler, Earl Ray, Tony Gschwender, Tommy Wallace, Luke Stuerman, and David Cadwallader.

Services for Wayne Buford Smith were held on Monday, March 4 at the Collier Funeral Home in Louisiana. The Rev. Ben Teague assisted by Rev. Don Kelley officiated.
Burial was in the bluffs overlooking the Mississippi River at Riverview Cemetery.
Born April 13, 1918 in Arkansas and raised near Union, Miss., he was one of five children born to Felton and Gussie Lipsey Smith.
He married Chattie Sue Darby on May 6, 1938 and they enjoyed a long and happy marriage until his death. They were blessed with two children, Eleanor “Sue” Sitton and Gerald “Jerry” Wayne Smith.
The Smith family moved from Tennessee in 1955 to Louisiana to set up and run a saw mill just south of Louisiana along the river.
In later years, he started Wayne B. Smith Inc. and opened a quarry and river port. The business continues to serve the community today under the direction of son, Jerry.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents and siblings with the exception of his dear sister EdMarie Agnew of Memphis Tenn. Also preceding him in death was daughter-in-law Karen Carr Smith. Surviving is his wife, Chattie of 74 years; daughter and son-in-law, Sue and John Sitton of Louisiana and Jerry and Gail Smith of Louisiana; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren called him PaPa Wayne, including Cindy Sitton Blaylock and husband Gregg of Louisiana, Sherry Miederhoff and friend Kenny Moses of Jefferson City, Chris Sitton of Pittsfield, Ill., Matthew Wayne Smith and wife Jennifer of Louisiana and Mark Smith and wife Angela of Louisiana, along with their children Brad Stoops, wife Jessica and his children Raelynn and Jonathan; JT Miederhoff, Emily Sitton, Aiden Smith, Alexa Smith, Matthew Gerald Smith and Chattie Valentina Smith.
The family has suggested memorials be sent to the Pike Nutrition Center, Buffalo Township United Fund, and Pike County Memorial Hospital Foundation in care of Collier Funeral Homes, Inc., 117 Barnard Drive, Louisiana, MO 63353.
Few knew of the generosity by Mr. Smith for his family, employees and the community. Most recognized him by his serious persona, but those who knew him well enjoyed his dry, witty sense of humor. He will be sadly missed by all whose lives he touched.
