Short of arming staff members, the Louisiana R-II School District has taken a large number of security steps in the wake of the Newton, Conn. shootings.
At the Tuesday, Feb. 19 school board meeting, Superintendent Dr. Richard Basden said the last two steps will be done soon.
Those steps are installing closed vestibules at the district’s two campuses that will allow school personnel to see visitors before final entrance into the building.
“To get into the buildings, they will have to show who they are,” Basden said.
At the Louisiana High School and Middle School campus a new door will be cut to create a vestibule through what is now the principal’s office, Basden said.
At the elementary school campus, a new wall will be put up in the current entrance to create the vestibule there.
