The talented, number one-ranked in the state Silex Lady Owls beat the Clopton Lady Hawks, 69-48 on Saturday, Feb. 23 at the Class 2 District 5 Basketball Tournament girls championship game in Louisiana, ending Clopton’s season.
The district tournament saw the other three eastern Pike County teams fall as well, which means no Clopton or Louisiana team won a district title for the first time in several years.
The Louisiana Bulldogs squandered an 11-point lead at the end of third quarter and allowed the South Shelby Cardinals to tie the game and produce an overtime 65-58 win on Friday, Feb. 22.
The Louisiana Lady Bulldogs fell to Silex, 68-34 in the semifinals round of the tournament on Wednesday, Feb. 20.
The Clopton Hawks lost to the Silex Owls, 59-57 in overtime on Tuesday, Feb. 19 in the opening round of the tourney.
