Rotary Youth Exchange Student Larissa Vasconcelos is calling Louisiana and Louisiana High School home during the 2012-2013 school year.
Larissa is from Brazil and has provided the local membership some insight into her home country during the regular weekly meeting on Feb. 14.
While in the United States, Larissa hasparticipated in several group events with other visiting exchange students from around the world. The Youth Exchange program is promoted by Rotary as yet another way to spread peace around the world through a better understanding of other cultures.
While in Louisiana, Larissa will be hosted by the Ernie Painter family and the Steve Cunningham family. Larissa noted that she misses friends and family but that her stay in Louisiana has been very enjoyable and less lonely because of the welcome she has been given by Rotarians and her host families.
During the meeting the Rotary membership was also reminded that the newly formed Interact Club, Rotary for Teens, is sponsoring a Coffee House in Mr. Picones room at the high school each morning at 7:30 a.m.
Members are encouraged to stop and visit with the group. They have several projects being planned, one of which is a program on bullying that will be presented in the schools.
Board Member Eric Gearing provided the members with a brief report from the board noting contributions to the Louisiana Historic Preservation Association and After Prom.
The Feb. 21 weekly meeting will be held at the Louisiana High School in the Ag Building as Rotarians will be guests of the Louisiana FFA Chapter.
FFA membership will serve the club members lunch and provide information about their projects, programs and plans. Visit www.rotarylouisianamo.org. For more information about Rotary projects and contact information.
